Spravato — Coming Soon to Ample Grace Psychiatry
For patients whose depression has not responded to standard antidepressant treatment, Spravato — FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray — represents a clinically meaningful option. Ample Grace Psychiatry is actively building toward offering Spravato at our Golden Valley office for adults with treatment-resistant depression.
What is Spravato?
Spravato is the first FDA-approved nasal spray medication specifically for treatment-resistant depression — defined as major depressive disorder that has not responded adequately to at least two antidepressants at therapeutic dose and duration. Unlike traditional antidepressants that primarily target the serotonin pathway, Spravato works on the NMDA receptor in the glutamate system, producing rapid antidepressant effects that can appear within days rather than weeks.
Spravato is administered as a nasal spray in-office under clinical supervision. Patients remain at the office for a two-hour monitoring period following each administration. Sessions are typically twice weekly for the first month, then weekly, then every one to two weeks depending on response.
Who May Qualify for Spravato?
You may be a candidate for Spravato treatment when it becomes available if:
- You have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder
- You have tried at least two antidepressants without adequate relief
- Your symptoms have significantly affected your work, relationships, or daily functioning
- You have commercial insurance — Spravato is covered by most major commercial plans when prior authorization criteria are met
- You are willing to attend in-office sessions in Golden Valley, MN
