Spravato is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression. It may be considered when major depressive disorder has not responded adequately to at least two antidepressants at therapeutic doses and durations.
Unlike traditional antidepressants, Spravato works through the glutamate system and NMDA receptors. It is administered in-office under clinical supervision, with patients monitored for approximately two hours after each treatment.
